• It works! It does what it says it will do.

  Pros

  I had all my media on an external drive which died after a 4" fall onto carpet. I knew that if I connected either the nano or the touch to itunes, it wouldn't find the media & would wipe the devices clean. I used Sharepod, and transferred everything from both devices to replacement external drive #2. No problems, easy to use! I can even edit minor but irritating things like spelling, genre, and delete. Sharepod allows you to retrieve media as well as add media to your Apple devices.

  Cons

  More of an Itunes problem, in that when I put the podcasts back into the proper folders iTunes refused to recognize them as podcasts. Instead it would show the exclamation mark next to the podcast listing. Even when I steered iTunes to the proper podcast location (in the same folder), and it acknowledged them, it would now load these podcasts as music.

  Summary

  Sharepod worked so well, repeatedly, that even though it's free I happily paid some money. We spend for things which seem promising, and later feel as if we bought a box of rocks. Not so with Sharepod. Years later, people keep having problems and I've recommended Sharepod, with happy results.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Apr 15, 2017<p/>and I'm back! New computer, new nano. I really do like my music to be separate from my phone. Games can send the phone into single-digit power. Even though I have the last Samsung which has a swappable battery (Galaxy s5), who wants to stop and peel off the Otterbox? Besides, if you have yet another reason to carry your phone around, you have limited excuses for the people who seem to think they should be able to reach you any time of day. So Sharepod will help me make sure all content is on the replacement hard drive, I can give the old nano to a friend of my 10 year old nephew with music intact (even Apple can't be that much of a grinch that it would wipe music away from a child), and be able to load up the new nano.

  Pros

  None. Wouldn't do a transfer from my ipod without stopping in mid xfer to inform me that xfers were limited and that I needed to upgrade for full functionality. Totally wasted my time.

  Cons

  The install had a yard of legalize and then the install included some evil sounding application with a title (I forget exactly) but something like Security Malware Protection or some such thing. After the repeated pop-ups interrupted my xfer attempt I uninstalled everything and now I waiting to see if any surprises surface....

  Summary

  Don't bother. I hate come-ons. Its not freeware if it doesn't really work without paying. If you want money for your product; say so and tell me how much but don't mislead.

  Summary

  Aside from the bad link, if you go to the website and attempt to get this thing to read an 80GB iPod clasic, you then have to muck around with an FWID no which you can get from the back of the iPod, or in my case since it's old and scratched, get it via your device manager. You can find instructions on the net telling you how to enter the compulsory FWID no, but that's where you get stuck. NOTHING HAPPENS !!. There are enough forums on this subject to tell you that I'm not the only one to have wasted their time with this. Save yourself 15 minutes of aggravation. Don't bother.

  Free for first 55 songs then 20 dollars, but it's worth it.

  Summary

  I had inadvertently deleted about 300 songs on my iTunes account when transferring to a new computer. Was able to use this program along with another Apple device that still had them on it and recover and re-install them back onto my device.

  The hard drive of my laptop got corrupted and had to be replaced. Before I bought another license, I contacted Macroplant, the makers of SharePod. The contact info states it could take several days for customer support to contact you. I was contacted and given my purchase key for the software, within an hour. Great customer service!

  This is a demo version that would only transfer one single specific album to my PC. It definitely is not a free program. Cnet's description is wrong and misleading!

  <br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Oct 31, 2014<p/>This version has a serious bug in generating song titles when copying from my iPod to a folder on my PC. It creates the artist and album folders OK but then it prepends the artist and album names to the song title, and does not include the track number in the title like it should. In copying over 5000 songs from my iPod hundreds did not copy because the resultant title name created a file path too long for Windows to accommodate.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Nov 2, 2014<p/>Exiting the program does not kill its process. You have to go into Task Manager to kill the process. Purpose and features of Sharepod are great but the software has significant quality problems.

  I've used SharePod(*******) for some time, and to be honest the talented folks behind that and TouchCopy deserve some cash. They've made a solid piece of software here, that in my opinion should be part of the iTunes package. You won't be disappointed.
